My Cooking Style

I put France in your kitchen!

From traditional regional recipes made with local ingredients, to upscale cuisine, to classic baking and pastry, I enjoy all forms of French cooking.

My Culinary Experience

Born and raised in France, I discovered my love for cooking in my mom's kitchen. My grandmother was actually the first big influence in my love for cooking, as she would always improvise new and delicious ways to get me to eat my vegetables when I was young. Starting when I was 18, I cooked in restaurant and hotel kitchens in France for over a decade. In that time, I moved through all of the stations of a professional kitchen, including baking and pastry. Though I spent time in some of the most exciting and high-end kitchens of Paris, I grew tired of the judgmental atmosphere and some negative attitudes in France .

Following my culinary dream, I moved to America less than a year ago, Since coming to New York, I have been blessed to be able to cook for people in small and intimate settings, a world away from being in a professional kitchen. I am not limited by cuisine, number of guests, dietary requirements, or creative requests and look forward to working with you to create a remarkable culinary experience!

We asked Oscar to help us prepare a nice birthday dinner for 8 on relatively short notice. On the whole, we were very pleased with the experience. Oscar is a really nice guy and proposed several complex menu choices. However, we had some specific requests for the night's menu and he was able to accommodation them.

Oscar worked through the day to prepare the meal and the entire event went smoothly. He (a) prepared great dishes, spread over several courses, and (b) did a great job of serving. I was initially concerned that having an in-kitchen chef and server during a small, intimate dinner would feel awkward, but he and his wife (who helped him) did a great job of balancing this concern.

Personally, I would use Oscar again for fancy occasions but experiment with other chefs for other occasions. Overall, I will definitely use kitchen surfing again and I would recommend Oscar.
