We are ex-South Africans of Chinese descent who cook a variety of eclectic comfort foods by way of Africa, Europe and Asia.
One of Proust’s deep insights was that our gustatory senses bear a unique burden of memory. And so it is in our family, where recipes, techniques and menus cross generations and oceans to find expression in our love for cooking for others; small family gatherings and large extravaganzas on special occasions. We learned our craft in the flour covered laps of our grandmothers, at the sauce spotted aprons of our mothers and in the patient garnish cutting precision of my father. We carried our love for entertaining to our second act selling South African Street food at artisanal fairs and food markets. (www.wozanyc.com)
