Everyone loves ice cream and today it is so easy to get lost among the huge variety of different kinds of this sweet treat! Creamy, fruity, with cookies or icy, sometimes it is pretty hard to make a choice.
However, if you are concerned about eating only healthy desserts, the commercial icy treats might become an issue since they contain various preserving agents and other artificial additives to make them last longer without decaying the taste and flavor.
Fortunately, we know several easy-to-make alternative goodies from Elisa Chan that will taste the same yummy and will take you very little time to get them ready to be enjoyed.

What Can We Substitute For Ice Cream?
If you think that ice cream can only be made with milk or cream, and to prepare it we need to go through the complicated procedure, you are wrong. Centuries ago, people in Asia used to make this dessert simply of ice crushed in powder with the sweet syrups on top!
However, this method is hardly suitable today since large amounts of water will take a lot of time to freeze.
And of course, in case you’re craving a traditional creamy dessert, it won’t be possible to skip that monotonous preparation step, but at least, we can use ice cream makers today to make things simpler.
But what if we say it is possible to make use of lots of other, sometimes quite unexpected, substitutions and alternatives that will taste the same good (and sometimes even better!)? And don’t fuss, it will not require hours of freezing!

1. Go for bananas
The best thing about this recipe is that we don’t need to do anything! Just peel the fruits, and freeze the soft inside whole until it solidifies! It’s truly a genius thing!
Of course, frosted bananas will not have that bright taste, so it is OK to add some flavor by drizzling over any sweet and aromatic syrup, for instance, coconut or chocolate.
But if you would like to make it a real banana crush, we would recommend dipping each banana into a chocolate glaze (Magic Shell will be fine) after the fruit is already frozen, and repeatedly freeze them again to enjoy those chocolate-covered yummies.
Dairy-free and gluten-free recipe, moreover, it is absolutely waist-friendly (if not using chocolate) which means you will not feel guilty for eating a bit more than you expected.
2. Coconut milk
For the lovers of the exotic tastes, this sweet and milky drink can become a new staple when making craft ice pops.
You will need two cans of full-fat coconut milk, some sugar to the taste, and a pinch of vanilla extract. Beat that all up with a blender until even and smooth, and then make a delicious dessert in an ice cream maker according to the instruction.
Feel like doing it manually? All right, then pour the whisked substance into a frost-resistant tank and toss it into the frosting camera. After half an hour, whisk it again and send back to freeze. That re-whisking must be repeated every thirty minutes which is bothersome, but otherwise, the needed consistency won’t be achieved.

3. Try some Greek yogurt
If you like its taste, this dairy foodstuff can be handy. Blend the yogurt and some frozen fruits with sugar in a food phttps://happyislandvegan.com/how-to-make-almond-milk/rocessor, and freeze the substance until solid. Enjoy anytime! As an option, go for any syrup to play with the flavors.
4. Juicy ice pops
In case you are trying to keep the calories on a short leash, this low-fat option is your choice. Simply prepare a sugary syrup (just water and sugar boiled), let it cool, and blend it into any juice you like.
Fill the pop molds with the substance, insert sticks, and freeze.
5. Want some shaved ice?
Yep, we are not joking! This is in fact an ancient ice cream recipe, we can even say, an ancestor of all ice creams we have today.
It will take some time to shave that ice, that’s true, but at least you will be able to add any syrups or sweeteners both on top and into the middle of that icy pile.
6. Almond milk
Well, in fact, any vegetable milk can be used, but consider that the texture of such a craft ice cream will be somewhat granular. Since it contains egg yolks, it will hardly be suitable for vegetarians, so take that into account.
As for the preparation process, it will take some time, but you will get a delicious cold dessert as a reward!

7. Vegan-style
Even if you’re not a vegan, why not try something that is out of common? Avocado ice cream, for instance!
The recipe only requires two avocados, a can of coconut milk, and some syrup. Blend the fruits’ flesh until smooth paste consistency, do the same with the cooled coconut milk (do not use the liquid, only the thick creamy stuff), and then combine both and stir.
Now it’s only needed to divide the mass into portions and freeze!
8. Go exotic
Some of us like unusual tastes and are always eager to try something they never tried before. If this is about you, then make yourself a tofu ice cream next time. Experienced tofu lovers tell that the taste is slightly beany, and, as we assume, the texture may also be slightly different from what all of us are used to, but who cares if it is delicious?
9. Frost your smoothie
Why not? You will get somewhat granular iced pops as a result, but fruity ice in a store is just the same, isn’t it?
Besides, this recipe allows playing with different tastes and it is so simple that even a kid can manage it!
Of course, these were not all the options one can go for when looking for ice cream substitutions. But even these are enough to explore the new tastes and flavors, and maybe to create something new!
