Now, you’re probably laughing out loud after reading the title to this blog. I really can’t say I blame you. I mean, after all, how dangerous could a muffin pan be? It’s not like somebody who is a Kung Fu master would take a muffin pan and the chuck it at you at a higher rate of speed to know your head off. While I may have described the scene from the Marvel comics series Daredevil, in particular, his struggle with the villain named Bullseye, in real life, this might not be that big of a deal. The physical danger of sharp metal edges or rusted out parts aren’t really present with muffin pans when compared to other bakeware because these pans are fairly easy to view and size up. You can tell pretty easily when it is time to chuck your muffin pan due to physical damage, warping, or even rust. If you are experiencing any of those, stop reading right now and check out our muffin pan reviews. You need to buy a new one now.
The big danger you should consider involve mold or other health dangers. While it’s idea for bakers to clean up their pans right after use, most people simply run out of time. Seriously. If you’re anywhere like the typical American consumer, you probably have lots of other concerns on your mind and chances are quite high that safely cleaning your muffin pans is not high on your agenda. You have bigger fish to fry. Sadly, consistently failing to clean up bake ware might lead to you unleashing the threat of mold in your kitchen area.
Well, still, if you are very careless with how you store your muffin pans or how you use them, these dangers can crop up since you are using muffin pans to bake great stuff for your family, you need to aware of these dangers. As the old saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure.
It’s much better to avoid problems now than to have them to blow up at your face at the worst times possible. After all, Murphy’s Law is always in effect. The worst things happen precisely at the times you least expect them to. In most cases, you are completely caught unaware and you are knocked out. Don’t let that happen to you, especially when the threat comes from a muffin pan.
Dangers look beneath the surface
Look at a typical muffin pan. It seems very clean but the problem is if you let your assumption of cleanliness get the better of you, you might handle and store or use your muffin pans in such a way that a health risk appears.
Now, just because there’s a health risk, doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re going to suffer or you’re going to get sick. It’s not automatic. But the more relaxed your attitude is regarding these health dangers or risks, the bigger the risk gets and until unfortunately, it reaches a stage when it poses an almost imminent threat to your health.
So how bad can muffin pans get? Well, outside of you handling the muffin pan in such a way or storing it in such a way that it produces a sharp metal edge which can cut you, the number one danger to be on the lookout for are molds.
If you procrastinate a lot or if you are lazy, it’s very tempting to assume that just because the pan has a non-stick surface that you just need to use the pan and then tap out the item that you baked and then reuse the pan. After all you’re thinking at the back of your head, when I put that pan in the oven, whatever bad stuff or germs of molds that show up will get nuked or destroyed by the fire. It’s very hot in the oven.
While you’re justified in thinking this, if you are very sloppy with your muffin pans, the molds that can develop on the surface which may not be visible to the naked eye can pose an airborne threat to your health.
For example, you leave some muffin pans in the cupboard and there are enough crumbs or debris on the surface, this can lead to the growth of molds and when it comes time for you to take out the muffin pans, you might dislodge the molds and they will become airborne. If you breathe this in, you might find out in the worst way possible just how bad molds can be to your health.
Make no mistake about it, molds are bad news that’s why a lot of apartments and homes in the United States are being fumigated and in many cases, torn apart just to get rid of mold health risks. If you leave your muffin pans out long enough or you don’t clean them for a long enough period of time, they can look really bad and smell really bad, thanks to the mold that grow on their surfaces.
