I do not mean to confuse you with the title of this blog post. I am not talking about simply lining up a few well-known brands that design and manufacture the best bread machines or bread makers. If you are looking for that kind of article, you probably would quickly figure out that the Internet has no shortage of such material. Brand comparisons are all too common.
What I am trying to achieve here is that brand selection as far as sizing up what goes into a particular brand’s reputation has a big impact as far as the quality of your decision. You may think that bread machines are not really going to set you back all that much. I mean, most people can spare $50, $100 or even $200.
I need you to look at the big picture. I need you to understand that when you size up the values that go into a particular brand, you are really investing in your education as a consumer. The sooner you are able to figure this out, the better your buying decisions would be. While it may seem like you are considering making the most out of the $50 to $200 you are investing in a bread maker, look at the skills that you are picking up.
Make no mistake about it, if you figure out the importance of brand selection as far as brand evaluation and formation are concerned, you can make better informed decisions across the board. That is right. We are talking about finer houses, buying into better neighborhoods, buying better automobiles, buying better bread machine and so on down the line. Look at the bigger picture, picking the right color of a bread machine or the right size of a bread machine is not enough.
Unfortunately, most people do not even get this far. In fact, most people are completely unaware as to how brand formation is concerned, and that is why they complain. Seriously. They feel that they got taken in. They feel that they were tricked or otherwise deceived. Well, you are only fooling yourself if you think you got deceived. What happened was you got lazy. Seriously. A lot of people who rely on brand just to rely on brands pretty set themselves up to fail. They really do not have anybody else to blame except themselves.
You see, in this world, there will always be an easy way and a hard way to do things. Now, what makes it all tricky is that the hard way actually looks pretty easy. When you are lazy and you are simply relying on word of mouth, or you are relying on which brand gets the most media coverage or most mileage, you are probably going to be manipulated somewhere down the line. Read reviews of particular bread makers, get informed.
Now, people talk about the term “manipulation,” they often cast it in negative and dark tones. It is not necessarily negative and dark. If you think about it, manipulation really is all about sending you strategically selected information so you can make the decision that the advertiser wants you to make. Now, if this is dark, nasty and evil, then why is this a multitrillion international industry? Why is there so much money spent year after year on advertising? It really all boils down to perception and who gets to control what perception you walk away with.
You need to think in these terms when it comes to brand selection and comparison of bread machines because if you truly want to make the right decision, time and time again you need to examine first principles. You have to look at what kind of assumptions you began with so you can come up with conclusions that are of a higher quality. As I mentioned above, most people are intellectually lazy.
Now, do not confuse that with physical laziness. Most people work hard. Most people are willing to sacrifice for their goals. I am not talking about that. I am talking about intellectual laziness. In fact, the older you get, the higher the chances that you would be intellectually lazy.
The reason why this is the case is because when people experienced a phenomenon in the past, they think that they know the phenomenon. After all, they lived through it; they witnessed it; they think they have figured it out. So, when something happens in the future that they can somehow tie in to something that occurred in the past, instead of examining things based on first principles and really getting under the sheets so to speak to inspect truly what they are confronted with, they simply automatically associate new experiences with old experiences. This assumes too much. If you have a habit of doing this continuously, it is no surprise that you make bad decisions.
This is why brand formation is so powerful. Companies, whether they produce bread machines, bread makers or any other kind of cookware, know how this mental laziness works. So, what they would is that they would make easy associations between certain values that you are looking for and definite graphical images or particular ideas. The thinking is after enough repetition, you would automatically equate the idea with their brand; and the more they repeat this, the stronger the association becomes, and you spontaneously assume that buying a specific bread machine or bread maker is the way to go because it is somehow someway tied to your past experience. It turns out that it really is just an intellectual illusion.
