History & Interesting Facts

Everything started in 1897 for Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. The warm, inviting atmosphere and family-focused attitude present in every Pappas restaurant began well before opening the first restaurant in 1976. It all started with their legendary grandfather, H.D. Pappas. He left Green in 1897 and went to America to pursue his dreams. He took with him this passion for quality and service that has become the benchmark of his success as he opened restaurants in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Texas. It was this same dedication to quality and service that H.D. Pappas passed down to his sons and grandsons. His sons, Pete and Jim, chose a different track than their father’s as they entered the restaurant equipment and supply business. In 1945, they launched Pappas Refrigeration. It was not until 1976 when Jim’s sons, Chris and Harris, following in their grandfather’s footsteps, opened the first restaurant, bringing the American dream of every family in a full circle.

Among the things that make Pappas Restaurants district from other restaurant companies is that Pappas not only runs their restaurants to provide food for their loyal guests at various parts of the day, but it also owns and drives the trucks that deliver the freshest meats and seafood to their restaurants each day. They employ the electricians who keep the lights on and kitchens working. They even make their own chairs in the dining area. They create, own, and operate almost everything they need to make sure they keep serving only the highest quality products in a comfortable setting that keeps guests satisfied and coming back for more. This way of running a business is known as “vertical integration,” and this helps them ensure there is never a gap in the processes as they provide the absolute best for their customers.
