I always roast our turkeys for Thanksgiving because I don’t own a deep fryer large enough to cook a turkey. I normally roast my Thanksgiving turkey in the oven. I did one year have a turkey small enough to put in my George Foreman rotisserie.
I normally rub it with butter, salt and pepper it, and sprinkle Schillings poultry seasoning on my turkey. Sometimes I leave off the poultry seasoning. When I roast my turkey in the oven, I always cook it by itself. I always roast it at 20 minutes per pound or for 3 to 4 hours at 350 degrees to make sure it’s done if it doesn’t have the pop up temperature control in it. Even if it does have that in it, I usually cook it the same amount of time as without it.
However, I do bake my cornbread for my stuffing before putting the turkey in the oven. That way the cornbread can cool enough for me to handle for the stuffing. But, that’s a whole other article.
I haven’t had the courage to glaze a turkey like I would a ham, which I hardly fix for Thanksgiving or any other time of the year. When I get the courage to glaze a turkey for Thanksgiving, I will have to give it a whirl. If you are more courageous than I am, there are a couple of glazed turkey recipes in the short list I am providing.
Although for a family of three, the fifteen pound turkey my husband gets from work lasts us for a week. I do manage to find other ways to make meals out of it. I have even froze part of it since it’s more than the three of us can eat. The reason it’s just the three of us eating a turkey that large is because we have Thanksgiving in Oklahoma with my family. Before my dad passed away a few years ago, they always had a turkey bought in advance. Now we eat Thanksgiving at a restaurant on Thanksgiving day. Now I fix our turkey on Friday or Saturday at our home for us.
It doesn’t matter if you are only cooking for your own immediate family or for the whole family, you may find a Thanksgiving roasted turkey recipes useful. This way you don’t have to search high and low if you don’t want to or you can search on foodnetwork.com further for more Thanksgiving roasted turkey recipes.
