The powder incorporates the flavors of sweet, savory, bitter, sour and salty all within one seasoning and it adds great flavor to any Asian recipe.

  • 4 Pork loin chops (bone in)- between ½ and ¼ inch thick
  • 1 ½ cups of apricot marmalade or apricot jam
  • ¼ cup of low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons of five-spice powder
  • 3 Tablespoons of hot sauce (Tapatio)

Prepare pork chops for grilling. Rinse the pork chops in water and place them on a plate. Season with salt and pepper and let stand for at least five minutes in order for the pork to be room temperature. Fire up the grill to medium heat.

Next, prepare basting sauce in a small bowl. Add 1-½ cups of the apricot marmalade and the low sodium soy sauce to the bowl and mix. Then add in the 2 tablespoons of five-spice powder along with the 3 tablespoons of hot sauce. If you prefer, you can add another tablespoon or two if you really want your pork chops to be extra spicy.

Put the pork chops on the grill for 1 minute each side. Then turn the meat often and baste the pork chops with a heavy coating of the basting sauce each time the pork is turned. (Turn the pork chops every minute of cooking). Cook the pork chops until they are least medium and depending upon how thick the pork chops are, this should take anywhere between 10 to 15 minutes at medium heat.

Once the pork chops are cooked thoroughly they are ready to serve.
