Moving Made Easy

When it comes time to move, there are more than a few things you have to consider. First, you obviously need to find a new place to live, and packing up your current home can be challenging. But just as you need to create a checklist of things to do before you move out, you need a list of things to do before you move into your new house.

Moving Made Easy

Prior To Moving Out Checklist

Before you run out of time, scrambling to get everything packed up and organized for your move, you should create a checklist of what should be packed and prioritize the items. For example, you don’t want to pack up the bedrooms until the last minute, but packing up the living room or kitchen may be a good starting point. By creating a checklist, you can budget your time more efficiently to work around life, schools, work, all the distractions that occur while we’re trying to find time to pack.

Call Utilities And Forward Mail: Notify your utility company that you’ll be ending or transferring service and schedule to have your mail forwarded to your new address.

Repair Any Potential Issues:

During the move, there can be scuffs and dings that happen, so give yourself some time to repair any minor issues so that you’re better positioned to get your deposit back if there is one.

Organize Your Possessions: Get your clothes and other items organized before packing. You’ll be amazed at how much you’ve acquired and forgotten about, and getting those organized will help you pack efficiently.

  • Keep what is essential: A new house has a ton of potential, so prioritize what you have space for, the items you may need for your new home, and discard what you don’t want or need.
  • Eliminate anything unnecessary: Speaking about discarding old items, in general, discard anything you haven’t used in over six months. For example, if you haven’t used an item or worn certain clothes, then you don’t need them, and they’re just taking up valuable space in your home.

Create A Moving Budget: Moving can be expensive if you don’t have the budget for it. There are moving costs, service installation costs, travel and food costs, and more. Creating a budget that considers what services you need before moving and anticipating what expenses you need to cover once you move to your new place will keep costs in check.

Schedule Movers: Ask around for multiple moving quotes before selecting a mover. Once you find one that fits your budget, be sure to lock them in by scheduling it as soon as possible. That way, if any issues may arise, you’re covered in the most critical area, the movers.

Before Moving In Checklist

As you pack your old home, it’s easy to think about the items you need to cross off your move-out list. Unfortunately, most people fail to plan for the pre-move-in list of things to take care of. That said, there are a few items you should plan for to make your move-in as easy and painless as possible.

Organize Where Your Items Will Be Placed

When moving into a new space, the worst thing you can do is have all your items dropped off and then figure out where to put everything. However, between the move, the kids’ school, and your work, there’s a lot to balance during the transition, so organizing your space ahead of time will give you a good head start toward living in your new home.

Have A Home Inspection: Whether it’s determining potential issues with your attic, plumbing, mold, or wiring, getting a home inspection isn’t a bad idea. You should get an attic specialist to check for rodents or other issues and schedule somebody to inspect your plumbing to prevent any unseen problems.

Schedule Service Installation

Scheduling your service installation before you have all your items arrive, unpacked, and placed will help you with your organization and make it easier for your services to be installed. Schedule installation a day or two ahead of time to make the process more efficient.

Moving can be a juggling act, and if you don’t plan, it can become a significant challenge. So get organized first, and make your next move as painless as possible.
