Recipe For a Delicious Christmas Holiday Ham


Aw, Christmas! Can you just imagine the wonderful smell of that delicious holiday ham? You cannot wait to dig into it, right? I would like to share a recipe for a holiday ham that i have skimmed down to making it all a very easy process.

Ingredients: Ham (any size), 16 oz bottle of ginger ale, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of mustard, and 1 tablespoon of maple syrup, and one package of Reynolds cooking bags… appropriate for your ham size. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Get out all of your ingredients and place on your counter. I told you this was easy!

Next, trim the fat off the ham. Just slice it off. Go ahead, you can do it. Throw the fat away. Now, gently rinse the ham under cold water. Do not place the ham into your sink! Hold it in one ham and rinse it. Shake off the water and sit it on a plate to rest.

Get your baking pan ready and your Reynolds bag. Place a little bit of flour into the bag. Directions are on the box!

Mix the brown sugar, mustard and maple syrup in a bowl. Set aside. Gently place your ham into the cooking bag. You want to make sure you have enough bag left over to tie before baking it.

Slowly pour some ginger ale over the top of the ham and let it run down the sides of the ham. You will need to hold part of the bag with one hand while doing so the ginger ale does not run out of it. Once you see about two inches of ginger ale on the bottom, it is time to stop. That is all the liquid you will need. Now just pour your coating mixture that you had set aside on top of the ham and let it run down the sides. Neatness does not count on this part. It will be turn out great. If you like, take a spoon and even out the mixture on the ham.

That’s it! Tie up your bag with the twist from the box. Cut 6 one inch slits in the top of the bag and place it in the oven. You can add a meat thermometer to it if you would like. It takes anywhere from one to three hours to bake depending upon the size of your ham.

Once it is done, remove from oven and just allow it to rest for about 5 to 10 minutes. Gently remove it from the bag and place on your platter for slicing or serving. You can serve it straight from the oven or let it cool and refrigerate it to enjoy cold at a later time.

I have found that cooking it in the bag makes it easy and it is so tender and tastes great! Enjoy!
