Baking and Dessert cookbooks are so popular today that bookstores have whole aisles dedicated to them. The shelves are so overloaded it’s difficult to choose just one book. They’re all so tempting, loaded with alluring and sweet pictures, you can almost taste the pastries. Baking: From My Home To Yours by Dorie Greenspan is one book that stands out among the crowd. With 514 pages and full page photos by Alan Richardson, it’s a huge book. Although it’s a perfect addition for your coffee table, it will likely spend more time on your kitchen counter.
This is Dorie Greenspan’s ninth book with her most notable being “Baking With Julia“. She’s worked with big names like Nick Malgieri, Daniel Boulud, Pierre Herme and Julia Child and is a correspondent for Bon Appétit. Dorie’s books have won many prestigious awards such as a James Beard Award and an International Association of Culinary Professionals for Baking With Julia. Other awards are the Gourmand World Cookbook Award and IACP Cookbook of the Year.

Tuesdays With Dorie
Dorie has quite a following in the blogosphere. She has her own blog and frequents others. In fact, there’s a Baking Blog called Tuesdays With Dorie that has recently exploded on the food blogging scene. At this moment in time, a group of 85 passionate bakers are working their way through Baking: From My Home To Yours. Each week, one member in the rotation chooses a different recipe according to their membership date. The recipe is posted and emailed to the members who have one week to bake Brioche Raisin Snails, for example. Tuesdays With Dorie groupies post the recipes to their own blogs, sharing all their lovely photos and triumphs and/or blunders. Hence the name, “Tuesdays With Dorie”!
Baking: From My Home to Yours
Dorie’s book is written in a conversational tone, full of her personal recipes and experiences. She writes like she’s in your kitchen helping you roll out pie crust. Dorie says “It’s been 30 years since I started baking from home, and rarely a day goes by that I don’t bake. This book is a record of those years. It’s a collection of my favorite recipes….”
Chapters include: Breakfast Sweets, Cookies, Cakes, Pies and Tarts, Spoon Desserts and a very helpful glossary called A Dessert Maker’s Glossary of Ingredients, Tools and Techniques.
