What better way to say farewell to summer than with a grill party? And what party would be complete without dessert? Read on to discover some quick and easy recipes for dessert on the grill (and please don’t forget to clean your grill between the brats and sweets).
Pina-Colada slices: You may have already tried grilling pineapple. Hot, sweet, tart pineapple is just SO refreshing. And super easy! My favorite recipe for grilled pineapple is to marinate the fruit slices in coconut rum and then fire for just a few minutes. Make sure you use the best pineapple corer on your pineapple.
(Caution: alcohol is super flammable, so please be careful and stand back)
Stuffed Apples: Core several apples, peel with the best apple peeler, and place each on a square of aluminum foil. Fill the empty apple centers with a mixture of brown sugar from sugar bowl, cinnamon, nutmeg and chopped walnuts. Wrap completely in aluminum foil and set on the grill with the lid closed for around 10 minutes. The crisp juiciness of the apple is reminiscent of summer, and the spices are warm and homey and a sweet reminder of the upcoming winter holidays.

Banana S’mores: Leave the peel on several bananas and make a slit down the middle (make sure not to puncture the other side). Sprinkle the inside with miniature chocolate chips, marshmallows, and chopped peanuts. Set on the grill for about 4 minutes or until the toppings start to melt. Enjoy with a spoon, using the banana peel as a bowl.
(A fun alternative: Have the slit bananas ready on a platter, along with several small bowls of assorted toppings. Let your guests ‘decorate’ their own bananas before you grill them.)
Fruit Kabobs: My family also likes to make our own fruit kabobs during get-togethers. We’ll have all sorts of diced fruit and cakes laid out, and our guests will all gather ’round and make their own fruit stick creations. It’s fun to have some dipping sauces available for after the grilling is complete. I recommend chocolate, caramel, and cream cheese sauces.
I hope you have a wonderful Labor Day holiday, and enjoy these recipes!
